Payroll Pledges: United Way of Central Indiana

We are very grateful to two members of the Eli Lilly team -- Timothy Coleman and George Whitfield -- who made payroll pledges to support BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) through the United Way of Central Indiana.

Our hope is that more BDPA supporters will take advantage of payroll deductions as a way to help us fund BDPA programs, scholarships and services.

Payroll Pledges: United Way of Metro Chicago

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) is very pleased to report that there are five donors making payroll pledges to support BDPA programs and services through the United Way of Metro Chicago (UWMC).

AT&T United Way Employee Giving Campaign

BETF proudly receives pledged payments through the AT&T Employee Giving Campaign made by Gibran McDuffie. Our foundation is proud to be part of the annual giving program for AT&T. The donation made by Gibran will be used to support BDPA Chicago programs and services.

Our hope is that other BDPA members will consider making payroll deductions during annual giving campaigns put on by United Way, Combined Federal Campaign or the company itself. Others may simply want to make a one-time donation directly to BETF in support of the youth education programs taking place all over the country.

Bank of America Employees Make Payroll Donations Through United Way of Metro Dallas

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) is very happy to let you know that we've received our first donation from the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas. The donation came as a result of a payroll pledge made by Derek MacCallum (Bank of America).

Our hope is that other Bank of America employees in the metro Dallas area (and beyond!) will join Derek by making payroll pledges of their own in the coming weeks and months.

Payroll Pledge: Bank of America United Way Campaign

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) is grateful to Jacki Davis (Richmond) and Jeanette Wiggins (Rhode Island) for their payroll deduction pledge via the Bank of America United Way Campaign.

The donation received from Jacki will be restricted for support of the BDPA programs and services hosted by our BDPA Richmond chapter. The donation received from Jeanette will be restricted for support of the BDPA programs and services hosted by our BDPA Rhode Island chapter.

Our hope is that BDPA members and supporters will follow the example set by Jacki and Jeanette. We need more individual giving if we hope to grow our efforts to fund the youth education programs of BDPA around the nation.

SunTrust United Way Campaign

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation is grateful to Ruffin Bell for his payroll pledge through the SunTrust United Way Campaign. Ruffin asked that his donation be used to support the BDPA Richmond chapter programs and services.

Our hope is that other SunTrust employees will follow Ruffin's example!

United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation is grateful to Philips Healthcare employee Danna Sturdivant for her payroll pledge via the United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley. Danna serves as the national coordinator for the annual BDPA High School Computer Competition (HSCC).

BETF provides an annual scholarship -- the Dr. Jesse Bemley Scholarship -- to the highest-performing students at the annual HSCC championship. Danna asked that we apply her personal donation to the Bemley Scholarship Fund.

Our hope is that others who support the HSCC program will consider making a payroll pledge via United Way or other employee giving campaigns to support the Bemley Scholarship Fund!

Payroll Pledges: Wells Fargo Community Support and United Way Campaign

BDPA Education and Technology (BETF) is pleased to report that our organization has been designated to receive charitable contributions through the Wells Fargo 2010 Community Support and United Campaign.

Pledges were made by Reva Chamblis (Twin Cities) and Erica Frazier (Charlotte) in support of BDPA programs hosted by their local BDPA chapter.

Our hope is that other members of the Wells Fargo team will consider making payroll pledge to BETF in the future. For now, we hope you will join us in thanking Reva and Erica for their generous support!

Renee McClure Makes a Difference for Children in New York City

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) joins with the rest of BDPA-Nation in congratulating past national BDPA president Renee McClure for the recognition that she is receiving later today from the Women United in Philanthropy. [SOURCE]

Over the past 5 years, Women United in Philanthropy has raised over $3 million to support United Way of New York City’s youth empowerment programs that help ensure children are afforded the opportunity to reach their fullest potential. They mobilize women as leaders, fundraisers and advocates – particularly on the critical issues affecting low-income youth. Their goal is to work together and through the United Way to create the strong connections that measurably enhance the quality of life in our community.

Renee is being honored at the fifth annual 'Power of Women to Make a Difference' Awards Luncheon as one of New York City’s most dedicated women working to make a difference in the lives of these children.    Renee made a difference in BDPA New York chapter when she served as its president ... so we are not surprised that she continues to demonstrate her compassion and talents as an executive with National Grid.

Increasing Payroll Pledges for BDPA Programs

BETF looks to significantly increase the donations received from United Way offices and other payroll pledges around the country. We need volunteers in each of the 45 BDPA chapters to work our United Way Project. BETF Given a New Combined Federal Campaign Code * 11174

African American give more of their income to charitable causes than any other racial group. In many cases it is done through workplace giving in programs run by the United Way.

Did you know that BETF is one of 28 non-profit organizations in the National Black United Federation of Charities. NBUFC generates resources and support to strengthen families and communities in the United States and Africa.

We encourage all federal employees that participate in the Combined Federal Campaign to make a payroll deduction on behalf of the BDPA Education & Technology Foundation.

Our new CFC code number is 11174.

United Way of Washtenaw County

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) would love to see all of our members that work in Corporate America taking advantage of payroll deductions to support our efforts.   As such we were pleased to see that Tonji Zimmerman (University of Michigan) made payroll deduction donations via the United Way of Washtenaw County in support of the programs and services offered by BDPA Detroit chapter.

Our hope is that Tonji's selfless actions will be replicated by others.

Use United Way to Support BDPA

Did you know that when you make your pledge to the United Way campaign you have a choice of where and how your donated funds will be used? Yes, that’s right! United Way agencies, throughout the United States, have options referred to as either Open Donor Choice, Donor Designated, Contributor Choice, or Specific Care. While the names are different, each is an option that allows the giver (you) to directly specify a 501(c)3 organization as the recipient of your donation.

We want you to choose the BDPA Education & Technology Foundation (BETF) as your tax-exempt organization, especially if you want your donation to support programs or services for any of our 45 local BDPA chapters.

BETF places funds donated via your local United Way in a restricted fund that is available only to support the education & technology programs of that chapter. In the upcoming United Way campaign, we encourage you to designate your donations to an organization that you are personally involved with. Ask your friends and family to do the same.

To do this, look carefully for the place on your United Way pledge form where you can write-in the BETF name and address information.

Doing this will support BDPA education & technology programs in your chapter and around the country. Reap the rewards of supporting your chapter’s Student Information Technology Education & Scholarship program through funds raised via this simple effort.

Remember that your money, given locally, can work locally within your chapter; but only if you exercise this option when completing your Annual United Way pledge form. The option is probably the last on the pledge form and will have a blank line on which you may enter the name and complete address of the organization.

The BETF mission is to provide financial support for the education and technology programs BDPA at both the national and local level. Your generosity during this annual United Way (or CFC) campaign is one way we hope to complete our mission.

BETF proudly received pledged payments through the Allstate Giving Campaign made by Malvirse Dervin, Yvette Graham, Lewis Hamer, Felicia Mansfield, Chandra Morton, Ura Puranda and two anonymous employees. Our foundation is proud to be part of the annual giving program for Allstate Insurance. The donations made by these six BDPA members will be used to support BDPA Chicago programs and services. Allstate Insurance leveraged the generosity of these BDPA employees with an additional 15% matching fund donation.

Our hope is that other BDPA members will consider making payroll deductions during annual giving campaigns put on by United Way, Combined Federal Campaign or the company itself. Others may simply want to make a one-time donation directly to BETF in support of the youth education programs taking place all over the country.

BETF proudly accepted pledges through the WellPoint Associate Giving Campaign made by Yiddy Chaves, Corlon Ford, Wanda McGee, Eric Wingate and Annette Yates during the 2nd quarter of this year. WellPoint's mission is to improve the lives of the people it serves and the health of its communities. The donations made by these five BDPA members will be used to support programs and services put on by our BDPA Richmond chapter. WellPoint leveraged the generosity of these BDPA employees with an additional 50% matching fund donation.

Our hope is that other BDPA members will consider making payroll deductions during annual giving campaigns put on by United Way, Combined Federal Campaign or the company itself. Others may simply want to make a one-time donation directly to BETF in support of the youth education programs taking place all over the country.

United Way of Greater Cleveland

BDPA Education & Technology Foundation paperwork submitted to the United Way of Greater Cleveland (UWGC) requesting approval as an 'eligible volunteer agency'. Our understanding is that the UWGC Agency Eligibility Committee meets on April 29, 2008. UWGC will notify us about our eligibility status by May 15.


We want to work this same type of arrangement with the other United Way offices co-located with the other 49 BDPA chapters. Let me know if your chapter is interested in working with us on this fundraising initiative.
