Grant Disbursement: BDPA Dallas ($2,831)

BDPA Dallas chapter president Chad White submitted a proposal seeking fund from the BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF). The chapter needed the funds to support the growth of its Student Information Technology Education and Scholarship (SITES) program and chapter events. They plan to use the fund to ensure that their students can attend the 2017 BDPA Technology Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio on July 26-29. The remaining funds will go towards generating events the Dallas area that generate funds and growth for the Dallas Chapter.

BETF provided a $2,831 grant disbursement to BDPA Dallas chapter.

BETF would love to be supportive of all 47 chapters as they seek funding for youth education programs. Just reach out to us in accordance with the 7-step process shown on our website.

Top 10 BDPA Chapters (Membership, January 2016)

The lifeblood of any nonprofit association is its membership.  BDPA Cincinnati remains the #1 BDPA chapter in the nation for the tenth month in a row.   The chapter ... led by its new president,  Shawnda Peterson ... continues to amaze others by its consistent growth.   It will be interesting to see if the chapter can continue growing towards the next milestone of having 300 members this year.

We are very happy to see that National BDPA VP-Membership Management Mildred Allen has been asked by the current administration to stay on in her leadership role.  Her efforts have allowed BDPA to continue to grow.   She realizes that we need to work hard to keep membership growth and retention higher.

Loraine Stewart-David

BDPA Detroit had a great month in January as they grew their chapter by over 18% in that single month.  As a result  the chapter moved up in the national rankings to become the 3rd-largest in the nation.  The chapter president, Loraine Stewart-David, takes over a chapter with a powerful legacy.  Her chapter recently announced four winners (Gerald Curtis, Austin Little, Nicole Middleton and Amber Young) of the Fiat Chrysler Automobile Scholarship administered by the BDPA Education and Technology Foundation.  It is no accident that active efforts within a local BDPA chapter results in more members ... more members results in more membership dues ... which makes it easier to implement more consistent and effect programs and services. These chapters work hard to ensure that there is a strong return on the $100 investment that each member makes thru annual dues.

ThoughtWorks Renews Sponsorship of BDPA Dallas Chapter

ThoughtWorks made a commitment to renew its in-kind funding for facilities and food at the monthly program meetings hosted for technology professionals in the Dallas area. BDPA Dallas has used this continued relationship with ThoughtWorks to broaden its appeal to the community. The chapter is now the 12th-largest in all of BDPA. BDPA Dallas chapter president Chad White has his eyes firmly set on cracking the 'Top 10' in the coming weeks!

ThoughtWorks is community of passionate individuals whose purpose is to revolutionize software design, creation and delivery, while advocating for positive social change.



They are focused on helping our technology industry improve, and believe in sharing what they learn. They do this by writing books, blogging, running events, talking at conferences, and championing open source. They also do it by being part of the monthly professional development seminars put on each month by BDPA Dallas chapter.

We seek to uncover similar corporate relationships in all 47 local chapters around the nation. BDPA chapters in Cincinnati and Dallas have now unveiled their corporate partners for the monthly program meeting. What corporation is stepping up in your town to 'make a difference' for African American digital professionals?

Grant Recipient: BDPA Dallas ($5,000)

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation approved a $5,000 grant for BDPA Dallas chapter. BDPA Dallas chapter president Chad White submitted a request for the funding in July 2015. The purpose of the funding is to assist with traveling needs for BDPA Dallas students to attend the National Conference later this month.

The chapter selected five students who will represent the city in the annual High School Computer Competition championship. There will also be two chaperones in attendance to support the students.  BDPA Dallas students have been training since early in the year for the championship. The students are always excited, motivated and eager to learn about the components of the competition process.

Much of the funding for this $5,000 grant came as a result of volunteer grants secured by employees of BlueCross BlueShield of Texas. The chapter also received support from members of the fundraising team on Crowdrise.

Top 10 BDPA Chapters (Membership, December 2014)

The lifeblood of any nonprofit association is its membership.  BDPA membership grew by 23% in 2014.   December 2014 marked the first time in a year that our membership total declined.  However, it is likely that the growth will continue in 2014 under the leadership of National BDPA VP-Membership Management Mildred Allen.  She works with local, regional and national leaders to provide a value proposition to members (and potential members) with robust BDPA programs, scholarships and services.

One of the largest membership moves in December came from our BDPA Detroit chapter (president, Beverly Moore).  The chapter grew by over 66% in the past year to become the 8th largest chapter in the nation.  The chapter effectively used its monthly program meetings to introduce itself to the community.

ThoughtWorks renewed its sponsorship of our local chapter in Dallas, Texas.   The company agreed to provide in-kind facilities donation for the chapter's monthly program meetings.   This is the second year that ThoughtWorks has made the commitment to house these monthly professional development workshops.

The lifeblood of any nonprofit association is its membership.  BDPA membership continues to grow!  The membership total in November 2014 marks the 11th straight month of growth.  In fact, the total membership increased by 29% from this time last year!  The growth is a direct result of efforts by local, regional and national leaders to provide a value proposition to members (and potential members) with its programs, scholarships and services.  Kudos to the National BDPA president Pamela Mathews and her newly-appointed vice-president of membership management Mildred Allen for the continued positive trending in this core metric.   

BDPA Cincinnati chapter (president, Dalric Webb) is to be commended for a remarkable milestone as well.  This chapter doubled in size this calendar year!   They began the year as the 5th largest chapter in nation ... and now we find them sitting as the 2nd-largest chapter ... having grown by over 130% in the past 11 months!  The chapter effectively used its monthly program meetings and corporate sales to grow the chapter.  BDPA Cincinnati chapter grew faster than any other chapter in the past quarter!

Grant Declination: Sprint Foundation (BDPA Dallas)

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) worked with BDPA Dallas chapter (president, Chad White) to submit a $10,000 grant proposal to the Sprint Foundation via its 'Local Giving Grant Program'. If approved, the grant would provide partial funding for the Student Information Technology Education & Scholarship (SITES) program in Dallas.

Unfortunately, our grant proposal was declined. The declination letter read as follows:

Thank you for submitting a grant request for the 2014 Sprint Local Giving Grant Program. We had an overwhelming response to our program and received applications from non-profit organizations all over the area. As you can imagine, the allocation process was difficult.

All applications were scored by a team of internal reviewers. We regret to inform you that your application was not selected by the review committee to receive funds.

High School Computer Competition (Dallas, 2014)

BDPA Dallas chapter (founded in 1987) has been on the journey towards winning a national BDPA High School Computer Competition (HSCC) championship for over 20 years. The chapter leaders shared some of their thoughts on impact that the Student Information Technology Education & Scholarship (SITES) program has had on them and the students who receive this STEM-based training in this video:



The SITES program in Dallas is a collaborative learning experience that gives students an opportunity to develop higher order thinking skills and problem solving in a real world context. They will learn how to create dynamic web sites using HTML, CSS, PHP and JAVA. Participants develop interpersonal, teamwork skills and they learn how to create and develop presentations. These students will also learn public speaking skills, time management skills, how to set and achieve goals and working in a team environment.

Grant Disbursement: BDPA Dallas ($10,000)

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) is proud to announce a grant disbursement in the amount of $10,000 to the BDPA Dallas chapter. The funding came as a result of the active fundraising efforts of chapter members via payroll pledges, online platforms and volunteer grants.
