BDPA New York chapter continues to grow in terms of the number of students impacted by their programs.

Letter of Inquiry: Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation (BDPA Milwaukee)

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) worked with BDPA Milwaukee chapter to submit a letter of inquiry (LOI) to the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation. We asked for permission to submit a $10,000 grant proposal to support the 2016 Student Information Technology & Education (SITES) program planned for implementation in Wisconsin. BDPA Milwaukee chapter continues to grow in terms of the number of students impacted by their programs.

The Bradley Foundation requires two steps in their application process. First, the applicant should prepare a brief LOI to the Grant Program, describing the applying organization and its intended project. If the Foundation determines the project to be within the current program interests as determined by its Board of Directors, the applicant will be invited to submit a formal proposal.

Letter of Inquiry: Exelon Foundation (BDPA Chicago)

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) sent a letter of inquiry on behalf of BDPA Chicago chapter to the Exelon Foundation. BETF serves as the fiscal agent for all 46 local BDPA chapters. BDPA originated almost 40 years ago out of concerns that minorities were not adequately represented in the information technology industry. BDPA provides STEM-based education from the classroom to the boardroom for students and professionals in our community.

The Exelon Foundation has a rich legacy of community investment in terms of time, resources and people to help build a better tomorrow in the communities it serves. Educating the next generation is important to BDPA. Our hope is to introduce Exelon Foundation to a meaningful youth education program in the Chicago area. BDPA is building a strong relationship with the Chicago Public Schools to entice high school students to participate in its Student Information Technology Education & Scholarship (SITES) program. BDPA is a deserving group with a program that complements the mission of the Exelon Foundation. We understand today’s demands on corporate charitable contributions, as well as the effort necessary to consider each application.  Hopefully, they will see the worth of our program.

Our letter of inquiry sought permission to submit a $5,000 grant proposal for our BDPA Chicago chapter.

Letter of Inquiry: Andrew Jergens Foundation (Cincinnati)

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) teamed with BDPA Cincinnati chapter to submit a 'letter of inquiry' to the Andrew Jergens Foundation seeking permission to submit a full-fledged grant proposal. The proposal would ask for a $10,000 grant to support the chapter's 2015 Student Information Technology Education & Scholarship (SITES) program.

Andrew N. Jergens established the Foundation in 1962; two of his children and two of his grandchildren currently serve as trustees. Since 1962, the Foundation has awarded more than $17 million in grants in the areas of social services, health, recreation/environment, arts and education. The Foundation’s prime interest is the health, education, cultural experience, and social welfare of children in the Cincinnati area. It supports programs that benefit children, generally through high school age, in the Greater Cincinnati area. The Foundation is a client of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation's private foundation grant-making services.

Andrew N. Jergens was born November 28, 1881 on Halstead Street, Cincinnati, not far from the Andrew Jergens Company, founded by his father and a partner. Family lore has it that Jergens started working at the company at age 11. The Company was his life’s work until he passed away at age 86. It also allowed him to have the resources to be able to give back to his life-long community. (The Foundation is not associated with the former Andrew Jergens Company.)

Letter of Inquiry: Helen Bader Foundation

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) partnered with BDPA Milwaukee chapter to submit a letter of inquiry to the Helen Bader Foundation seeking funding to support the chapter's Student Information Technology Education & Scholarship (SITES) program.

The Helen Bader Foundation (HBF) has a lofty, yet simple goal: Turn today’s challenges into tomorrow’s accomplishments. They do this by supporting worthy organizations that make life better for people in their communities. Through awarded grants HBF is able to help organizations in Milwaukee bring young and elderly residents together in exciting and stimulating after-school activities that recharge attitudes and give participants a new perspective on one another. By creating scholarship funds, HBF can give children and families educational options they wouldn’t otherwise have.

Simply stated, HBF helps organizations in its program areas move from “how things are” to “how things could be.” The online grant application jointly created by BETF and BDPA Milwaukee chapter was successfully submitted on March 27, 2014.

HBF wrote, "Thank you for your submission; your grant application has been successfully submitted to the Helen Bader Foundation for review by our staff. Your request will be considered at our next staff meeting, after which you will promptly receive an email regarding the progress of your request."

BETF will continue to work with BDPA Milwaukee chapter president Carmen Giles and her team to obtain funding support for its worthy SITES program!

Letter of Inquiry: Cisco Community Impact Grant (BDPA Boston)

BDPA Boston chapter's liaison to the BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) is Tim Wilson. Tim worked closely with BETF to complete a grant proposal seeking $3,000 from the local Cisco Civic Council located in New England/Boxborough area. We submitted an online letter of inquiry (LOI)through the Cisco Community Impact Grant process. If successful, we will receive permission to submit the full grant proposal.

BDPA Boston chapter needs the funding to rejuvenate its Student Information Technology Education & Scholarship (SITES) program. The plan is to work towards having one or more college students, hopefully alumni from the chapter's High School Computer Competition (HSCC) program, participating in the 2012 BDPA IT Showcase.

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) seeks to work aggressively with any BDPA chapter to help them increase their grant funding efforts in 2012. BDPA Boston chapter took us up on this offer. BDPA Boston chapter president Rod Flakes and the chapter's BETF liaison Tim Wilson worked with us to complete a letter of inquiry (LOI) to the Millipore Foundation. We have asked them for permission to submit a full-fledged grant proposal.

Letter of Inquiry: Starbucks Foundation (BDPA New York)

BDPA New York chapter president Renetta English worked with the BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) on a letter of inquiry (LOI) to Starbucks Foundation.

We are hopeful that Starbucks Foundation will review our LOI and reply to us with approval to submit a full-fledged grant application. We want to request $5,000 in funding to support the Student Information Technology Education & Scholarship (SITES) program in New York City.

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) and BDPA Chicago chapter member Curtis Cade partnered an effort to obtain funding to support the chapter's programs. BETF submitted a letter of inquiry to the IBM community affairs leadership in Chicago under the company's IBM Community Gives program.

Letter of Inquiry: Charles Simonyi Fund for Arts and Sciences (National BDPA)

The Charles Simonyi Fund for Arts and Sciences is a 501(c)(3) private foundation which distributes funds to worthy organizations that demonstrate excellence in the arts, sciences and education. Grant proposals are accepted only after invitation by the foundation.

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) worked with national BDPA vice president Paulette Johnson-Davis on a letter of inquiry to the Simonyi Fund. We asked them for permission to submit a $25,000 grant proposal to fund the organization's annual IT Showcase and the High School Computer Competition.

The Wallace Foundation does some truly remarkable work in making high-quality out-of-school time learning opportunities available to many more children. Ordinarily, they only identify and evaluate prospective grantees through the issuance of Requests for Proposals or other careful screening processes. Unsolicited proposals are rarely funded.

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) and BDPA Chicago chapter submitted a letter of inquiry to Wal-Mart Store #5485 in Evergreen, Illinois. We are hoping to receive funding or in-kind donation of books, flash drives and supplies.

Letter of Inquiry: Ameren (BDPA St. Louis)

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) submitted a letter of inquiry to the leadership of Ameren on behalf of BDPA St. Louis chapter. We are hopeful that they will host the 2011 Awards Banquet for the chapter at their corporate headquarters.

We should have an answer on our request within the next couple of weeks.

Letter of Inquiry * Comcast Foundation (Eastern Division)

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) sent a letter of inquiry to the Comcast Foundation (Eastern Division) on behalf of BDPA Cleveland. We would like to get permission from Comcast Foundation to submit a full-fledged grant proposal in support of the Student Information Technology Education & Scholarship (SITES) program in northern Ohio.

BDPA Cleveland chapter president Henry Wiggins and SITES coordinator Sylvia Calhoun were very helpful in completing the letter of inquiry. We encourage our blog-readers to support the BDPA Cleveland HSCC Scholarship Fund project!

Letter of Inquiry * Discovering Your Potential (BDPA St. Louis)

BDPA St. Louis chapter worked with a community organization, Discovering Your Potential, to seek a hardware donation of 20 laptop computers. The mission of Discovering Your Potential is to serve as a resource for educators and parents who seek to improve academic skills for at risk children by offering an after school program focused on math and reading within the middle schools. The primary goal is to provide the necessary skills to close the achievement gap for students who are not meeting the state standards.

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) is working with BDPA St. Louis chapter on this computer hardware request. We should have an answer within the next few weeks.

Letter of Inquiry * Wal-Mart Community Grant (BDPA New York)

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) partnered with BDPA New York chapter to submit an application for community grant to Wal-Mart Store #5293 in Valley Stream, NY. BDPA New York chapter president Renetta English made a visit to the store manager to obtain a copy of the grant application. We hope to hear back from Wal-Mart in the near future on this funding request.

Letter of Inquiry * Beaumont Foundation of America (BDPA Chicago)

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) partnered with BDPA Chicago chapter to submit a letter of inquiry to the Beaumont Foundation of America. In our letter we asked for permission to submit a full grant proposal seeking $10,000 funding to support the Student Information Technology Education & Scholarship (SITES) program in Chicago.

The Beaumont Foundation provides grants and scholarships to a broad range of charitable, religious and educational organizations across the United States. We are hopeful that they will smile favorably on our funding request.

Letter of Inquiry * 3M Foundation (National BDPA)

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) and National BDPA submitted a joint letter of inquiry to the Community Giving folks at the 3M Foundation. We are asking them to provide us with $3,000 to purchase 75 ASP handbooks for the 2011 Student Information Technology Education & Scholarship (SITES) program.

Hopefully, the folks at 3M will smile favorably on our request!

Letter of Inquiry: William E. Simon Foundation

National BDPA vice president Paulette Johnson-Davis worked with BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) on a letter of inquiry to the William E. Simon Foundation. We are asking them for permission to submit a $25,000 grant proposal in support of BDPA's High School Computer Competition (HSCC).

The HSCC program celebrates its 25th year anniversary in 2010. Throughout the year, local chapters conduct SITES training programs for the youth in their communities. These programs are designed to expose our youth to the concepts of computers and give them the expertise to develop web applications. The program introduces our youth to the field of Information Technology. Our volunteers around the nation encourage these young people to seek higher levels of education, and groom many of them to become our next generation of IT professionals.

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) and BDPA New York joined together to submit a letter of inquiry to the PepsiCo Foundation.

We are asking for permission to provide a full-fledged $10,000 grant proposal to PepsiCo Foundation in support of the chapter's Student Information Technology Education and Scholarship (SITES) program.

PepsiCo Foundation evaluates requests on a rolling basis. Consideration regularly takes several months during peak times. We look forward to a positive response!
