Grant Declination: Fifth Third Bank (BDPA Charlotte)

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) worked closely with BDPA Charlotte chapter president Markus Beamer and the chapter's BETF liaison John Hoffler to create a $4,000 grant proposal for consideration by the community development folks at Fifth Third Bank. Unfortunately, our proposal was declined by the bank.

The declination letter read as follows:

Dear Mr. R. Wayne Hicks,

Thank you for your request Fifth Third Bank to provide support BDPA Education and Technology Foundation. Although wee do support the great work you do, we regret we are unable to provide the funding you seek.

While we know this is disappointing news, please keep in mind that Fifth Third Bank receives many worthwhile requests such as yours, and we make every effort to support a wide variety of programs that make a vital difference in the community. Unfortunately, we must decline many meaningful appeals for the simple reason that our funds are limited, while requests for those funds are not.

We wish you and BDPA Education and Technology Foundation much success in securing the funding needed for its programs now and in the future.

Fifth Third Foundation

Despite a challenging economic environment, the Fifth Third Foundation kept flying last year, working hard to provide uplifting support to charitable entities throughout Fifth Third’s market areas. Led by Vice President Heidi B. Jark, the Fifth Third Foundation’s resources were leveraged to provide the maximum impact for the organizations that needed them most.

The Fifth Third Foundation made over 200 grants last year to deserving organizations which work constantly to give hope to the people they serve. The grants represented nearly $3.4 million in community support of education, health and human services, community development and arts and culture.

In addition to providing crucial grant funding, the Fifth Third Foundation Office also advises not-for-profit organizations on ways to accomplish their missions in the most efficient and effective ways possible. Through site visits, grant writing assistance and suggestions for additional funding sources, the Foundation works behind the scenes to make a positive difference.

BETF received a $2,500 grant from Fifth Third Foundation in 2008 for SITES program in Columbus OH.

We seek the funding to support the outstanding Student Information Technology Education & Scholarship (SITES) program for Charlotte-area high school students.

Grant Proposal: Fifth Third Foundation (Cincinnati)

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) partnered with BDPA Cincinnati chapter on a grant proposal that we submitted to Fifth Third Foundation. We are asking them to provide us with funding to support the chapter's Student IT Education and Scholarship (SITES) program.

Grant Award: Fifth Third Foundation ($2,500)

We learned today that the Fifth Third Foundation donation committee approved $2,500 grant funding for BDPA Columbus chapter.

The funds will allow participation by Columbus-area students in the Student Information Technology & Scholarships (SITES) program. The program includes the Midwest Regional High School Computer Competition (HSCC), Youth Technology Camp and the national BDPA HSCC in Atlanta, GA on August 8-9, 2008.

A joint press release between the BDPA Foundation and Fifth Third Foundation will be issued in the next few days to announce this funding, however, we wanted our blog readers to know about it right away.

BDPA Columbus chapter president Cecil Jones led this funding effort based on discussions he had with a prominent Fifth Third executive. However, our BDPA Columbus chapter still needs financial support to get their students to the national competition.

Letter of Inquiry: Fifth Third Foundation

The Fifth Third Foundation has been making meaningful grants where Fifth Third Bank operates since its creation in 1948. Last year, the Fifth Third Foundation made over 560 grants throughout Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Illinois, West Virginia, Tennessee, and Florida. Grants totaling $4 million were made in the areas of arts and culture, community development, education, and health and human services.

Fifth Third Foundation accepted our letter of inquiry today requesting permission to submit a $5,000 grant proposal on behalf of our BDPA Columbus chapter. We should know before the end of the month if Fifth Third Foundation will invite us to submit the grant proposal.
