  • Seniors
  • Good academic standing
  • Plan to continue their education
  • Express interest in the program.
Those interested complete an online application, submit their resumes and complete the online Success Drivers Assessment. A resume template is available for those who do not have a resume prepared.

If the applicant meets the minimum criteria, they are contacted to set up an initial interview. During this visit the candidates:
  • Complete a full comprehensive interview
  • Are coached on interview tips and resume writing skills
Candidates who successfully complete the initial processes are invited to participate in Careers Day.

Apprentices can work in different functions in order to provide them with a broad view of P&G. Roles are solicited directly within the various functions providing the specific projects. Each apprentice’s skills and desires are considered when matching them with a role. The program owner places all apprentices. A work plan is in place for each apprentice before their arrival with mid-point and final evaluations held to assure expectations are being met.

Message from the BDPA Cincinnati Chapter President

Dalric Webb
BDPA Cincinnati chapter members,

As we begin our celebration of Black Family Technology Awareness Week, I would like to encourage each member of our chapter to get engaged with community efforts in and around your communities. Together we can accomplish miraculous works!

Your BDPA Cincinnati chapter is strong and growing, but we still need more hands on the oars of this mighty ship as we sail towards the great destinations of giving back, networking, professional development, leadership, and mentoring. Please consider taking either a role on the board or volunteering your time to assist with the many areas where we are working 'from the classroom to the boardroom'. You can view a list of the open board positions here.

We have a lot going on in the weeks ahead
!

  • Feb 22, 2014 - Our youth technology computer camp kicked off on January 11th with almost 20 high school students focused on a STEM based curriculum.  We are inviting the entire Cincinnati community to visit our computer camp to see our young people in action!  We will be joined on this day by a leader from Procter & Gamble who is recruiting for this year's Resident Scholar Program.
I’d also like to ask for your feedback.
  • How is your BDPA membership working out for you?
  • How can we improve the value of your membership?
Send me a note or pull me to the side at the monthly program meeting. This is YOUR chapter! Are you feeling engaged?

Finally, I encourage you to take a few minutes to look around on BDPA.org. In particular, take a look at the BDPA Cincinnati Chapter pages. Are they informative, relevant, accurate, and professional? What are your thoughts on improving the look and feel of our web presence?

Sincerely,
Dalric Webb, President

Procter & Gamble: Resident Scholar Program

There are remarkable science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programs around the nation. Our hope is that BDPA students are made aware of these STEM programs so that they can participate. We know that STEM careers have potential to lift families out of poverty. We need to continue to prepare our youth with meaningful STEM-related experiences so that they can opt-in to STEM education and career choices. One of the great STEM programs in the greater Cincinnati area is hosted by BDPA sponsor Procter & Gamble. This is the 10th year for the P&G Resident Scholar Program.

The P&G Resident Scholar Program is a unique 1-week job shadowing experience for high school minority students (10th and 11th grade during the ‘13/’14 school year) interested in pursuing STEM-based careers. The impact that this experience has had on the students has been phenomenal!
“This program convinced me to pursue science and engineering because I was able to see the career opportunities and application of science to industry. “ - RSP Participant.

Plans are currently underway to make this year the best yet. We need your help by identifying qualified students interested in taking advantage of this outstanding opportunity. Click here for the application details.

Grant Declination: Procter & Gamble Fund (BDPA Cincinnati)

We are sorry to report that our grant proposal to the Procter & Gamble Fund has been turned down. The grant proposal was a joint submission of BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) and BDPA Cincinnati chapter.

The declination response read as follows:

Dear Mr. Hicks:

Thank you for your interest in a grant from The P&G Fund. As you saw from our online guidelines and application, we are focusing our philanthropic resources primarily on Live, Learn and Thrive.

The P&G Fund's grant process is extremely competitive, and we cannot honor each organization's request. Unfortunately, we are not able to make a grant to your organization at this time.

This decision is not a reflection on your program; it is simply the reality that the quantity of high quality applications we receive far outweighs the available resources we have to distribute.

We wish you the best in your efforts to improve life for those in need!

The P&G Fund

This is a set-back to our funding efforts on behalf of the BDPA Cincinnati chapter, however, we will continue to move forward in an aggressive manner. You can help if you are so inclined. Please take a moment to visit the BDPA Cincinnati HSCC Scholarship Fund project. Even a donation as small as $10 would be a great morale boost for the chapter and its leadership.

Take Five: Patrick Nelson (Cincinnati)

I met Patrick in the mid-1990s when I first came to Cincinnati, Ohio. He amazed me for a number of reasons ... not the least of which was the amazing house he and his wife purchased in order to raise their boys. He recently asked all of the past presidents of BDPA Cincinnati chapter to come together in support of efforts by the Corporate Advisory Council to acheive various chapter success metrics in 2010.

Anyhow, I'm pleased that Patrick agreed to participate in our Take Five interview series:

  1. How did you get involved in working with BDPA? - About 5 years after I joined P&G I met Daryl Turner. Daryl introduced me to BDPA by inviting me to my first BDPA meeting. Daryl also mentored me as I applied myself and took on the roll of "Administrative Liaison" to the Corporate Advisory Council for the Cincinnati Chapter. I did everything from taking notes to sending out reminders and planning the agenda for the CAC chair who at the time was Toni Miles of CSC Consulting. I held many other roles over the years and will continue serving as long as BDPA stays relevant in creating opportunities for our youth and our members to build a better life for themselves via technology careers.
  2. What is the most rewarding aspect of working with BDPA? - Knowing that I am making a difference the lives of not only the children through the youth programs but of some of the members as well. I have helped several make valuable connections in their times of transition from one job to another. I have volunteered in almost all the BDPA roles over my many years as a member.
  3. Tell us about a defining moment in your life? - One of the most significant moments in my life was when my wife and I chose to accept an assignment in Geneva, Switzerland. It was truly a life-changing 3 years and it opened our eyes to the broader world beyond the US and the American political close mindedness. We traveled all over Europe and even ended our assignment with one last two-week vacation to Thailand. We loved the expat life so much we wanted to see if the family would adjust well to an Asian assignment. Sadly the opportunity did not materialize though we did love Thailand. My children still remember their time abroad as a very adventure filled and fun time in their lives. We would do it again if given the opportunity.
  4. Who is your hero and why? - I don't believe I have anyone I would place in the realm of hero but I do have several people I highly respect. One such person would be Mr. Robert Scott. Mr. Scott was also very involved with BDPA Cincinnati. He also served as the CAC Chair. He rose to the level of VP of Technology Services Worldwide for P&G. He has served as both a role model and mentor for me as I have traveled the BDPA & P&G journey. HE continues to serves as a role model as he serves as an officer of ITSMF.
  5. Any advice for people considering donation to BETF? - Every individual has to decide how they will be of service to others and giving to the BETF is a great way to serve others. To reuse a common slogan Just do it! Just donate!

Patrick is the type of brother that you hope to have as a friend or colleague. I'm grateful to the time, talent and energy that he gives in support of BDPA.
