Diversity in Science Carnival

Soulclap to Urban Science Adventures for pointing us to the 4th installment of the Diversity in Science Carnival is up. Please stop by to check out the great post contributions about programs that increase diversity in the halls of academia.

These carnivals are in prepartion for ScienceOnline2010. Anne Jefferson of Highly Allochthonous (ScienceBlogs) will lead a discussion about programs that broaden participation in STEM and how the Internet can be used to raise the profile of and build support networks for women and minority scientists and engineers. BDPA supporters are encouraged to join the discussion here.

BETF-Blog plans to join the Diversity in Science Carnival next month when the topic is STEM Diversity and Broad Impacts II: Pre-college and Programs for general audiences. We have a number of blog posts about successful, ambitious and inspiring diversity programs for youth and general audiences such as after-school programs, summer institutes, and citizen science programs.

Celebrating Women Who Made History in Science and Technology

The Diversity in Science Carnival will continue to celebrate the people of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and share their stories of triumph, success and perseverance.

Last month's inaugural carnival celebrating Black History Month was a success. I would love to share stories of BDPA members who are Women Achievers in STEM- Past and Present! This is a great time to learn and recognize some of the unsung heroes in our midst. Do you have anyone in your chapter that you would like to see us submit for this month's blog carnival?

DN Lee (Urban Science Adventures) encouraged me to submit my post on the all-Black all-Female flight crew. I also submitted blog posts on two BDPA Hall of Famers ... Diane Davis and Betty Hutchins ... for this month's carnival. What other women achievers from BDPA should be added to the mix?

If fact, let's try to list the Top 10 Women in BDPA History. Who would you have on that list?

Diversity in Science Blog Carnival: Black History Month

DNLee of Urban Science Adventures! blog is launching a new blog carnival:

All year is great time to learn more about science and the people who make the discoveries. But February offers a great opportunity to learn about the achievements of African Americans (and others from the African Diaspora) in the sciences. So I'm introducing a new Blog Carnival - Diversity in Science. Blogs of every genre is invited to write a special feature post about a person who is a pioneer or innovator in any of the amazing fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Tell us all about him/her? How has this person impacted field of STEM or inspired you? Or why is his/her story
interesting?
This is a great chance for us to share information about our current and past Epsilon Award winners and other BDPA leaders. If you have something relevant, submit it through the Blog Carnival link by February 20th.

Obama and McCain Answer Questions About Science and Technology

Soulclap to the Urban Scientist for pointing us to ScienceDebate2008. It is an online forum where the candidates provided answers to 14 key Science questions. The goal is to raise public awareness of science, technology, and innovation and call attention to informed decision-making at higher political levels.

I encourage all BDPAers to read the answers provided by John McCain and Barack Obama and offer comments or new questions from your unique perspective.
