BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) works hard to seek out grant funds to support BDPA programs on a local and national level. Sometimes we are successful, however, more often than not we get turned down. We share the information with you in either case. It is part of our commitment to be transparent to our donors and supporters.

BETF and BDPA New York worked together on a $5,000 grant proposal that we submitted late last year to the New York Life Foundation. We were disappointed to learn that our request has been turned down.

Here is the declination message that we received:

Your organization does not fit the Foundation's focus or geographical area.

Furthermore, we don’t accept unsolicited requests.

Grant Proposal: New York Life Foundation (BDPA New York)

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) worked closely with the officers of the BDPA New York chapter to submit a grant proposal to New York Life Foundation seeking $5,000 for the 2018 Student Information Technology Education & Scholarship (SITES) program. We hope to have an answer within the next couple of months.

BETF is willing to work with any of the 46 local BDPA chapters to obtain the funding that they need to successfully deliver their 2018 SITES program. Simply reach out to the BETF executive director if you have questions or wish to discuss further.

New York Life Foundation

The New York Life Foundation is a funding source that may be of interest to your nonprofit organization.


Areas of Interest
Proposals must fall within the Foundation’s Nurturing the Children focus, which includes educational enhancement, mentoring children, creating safe places to learn and grow and childhood bereavement. Preference is given to requests that provide an opportunity for volunteer involvement on the part of New York Life agents, employees and retirees.

Eligibility
Grants are made only to private, nonprofit organizations, which have tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, and which are not private foundations. The Foundation does not make grants to individuals or government agencies.

Geographic Restrictions:
The Foundation funds local projects in New York City and Westchester County, New York. The Foundation also considers multi-site projects implemented by national organizations. These projects must serve two or more of the following locations: Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Clinton, NJ, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Edison, NJ, Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Kansas City, KS, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, Parsippany, NJ, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Portland, OR, Richmond, VA, Salt Lake City, Sacramento, San Francisco, Seattle, Tampa, Tucson, Washington, DC, Waukegan, IL, and Westwood, MA.

Review and Evaluation
All requests are screened, researched and evaluated by the Foundation’s staff to determine general eligibility, conformity to grant guidelines and relationship to current Foundation programs and priorities.

If, after the initial screening, the Foundation is interested in a proposal, they will contact the applicant for additional information, further discussion, and a site visit. The Foundation’s Board of Directors makes the final decisions on funding requests.

If a grant is made, the grantee must keep the Foundation informed and updated on its activities throughout the grant cycle by providing progress reports. Reporting requirements will be outlined in the Foundation’s award letter.

Application Procedure
Proposals from organizations are accepted and reviewed on a continuous basis during the calendar year. All requests must be submitted online.

In response to your recent request, I'm afraid it won't be possible for us to make a contribution to BDPA Education and Technology Foundation.

As I am sure you can imagine, demands far exceed our ability to respond favorable to the many requests we receive each year, and these circumstances have forced us to restrict our giving to a greater extent than we would like.

I'm sorry that we are unable to provide financial assistance, but I'm sure you will understand the reason for our decision.

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) submitted a grant proposal on behalf of National BDPA to the New York Life Foundation. The funding would be used to nurture the education of young people through our Student Information Technology Education & Scholarship (SITES) program hosted by the following local BDPA chapters: Atlanta, Bay Area, Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Detroit, Greater Tampa Bay, Houston, Los Angeles, North Jersey, Philadelphia, Richmond, Twin Cities and Washington DC.

New York Life Foundation supports programs that include educational enhancement and mentoring children. Preference is given to requests that provide an opportunity for volunteer involvement on the part of New York Life agents, employees and retirees.
