The Web Academy Offers Free Online Web Design Courses

BDPA New York chapter member Eric Hamilton is becoming one of our favorite IT professionals. He was the key player in the successful grant proposal with Yahoo! Employee Foundation. He is also one of the world-class workshop presenters at the 2010 BDPA Technology Conference in Philadelphia on July 28-31.

As such, we encourage BETF-Blog readers to enroll in his Web Academy. The Web Academy was founded in 2009. The Web Academy provides FREE web design courses and FREE web development services to the community. 100% of the course work is distance learning taught by live instructors in real time.

In exchange for offering FREE web classes to otheir students, they require students to take on at least 3 web development projects of their choosing. Working on these real life web projects with real web clients gives the students actual work experience in the web industry.

The next class begins on Tuesday September 21, 2010.   The class will cover WordPress, HTML and FBML. HTML is the fundamental language for building web pages. FBML is Facebook's language for building fan pages.

Please register now before the September 21st reaches capacity!

Social Media Branding in the Age of Obama (Eric Hamilton)

There are going to be over 50 tremendous workshops at the 32nd annual BDPA Technology Conference in Philadelphia on July 28-31, 2010. One of those workshops is being presented by Involver client services manager Eric Hamilton.  His workshop is entitled Social Media Branding in the Age of Obama.   The workshop is scheduled for Friday, July 30th at 1:30 PM.

Eric Hamilton is an internet and web development veteran with over 20 years of technology work experience.  Currently, Eric works for Involver which is a social media technology company. Involver’s technology powers over 70,000 Facebook fan pages and over 130 million Facebook fan experiences.

Eric is the author of “Social Media Branding in the Age of Obama”. This book is a social media guide which gives social media strategies for small businesses and personal development.

Eric's workshop is inspired by the 2008 presidential campaign when Barack Obama made history by not only becoming the United States' first African American President, but by using social media technology to get elected. Never has a presidential candidate used the internet and social media so effectively. President Barack Obama used social media web sites such as Facebook, LinkedIN, Twitter, Myspace, Blogger, BlogTalk Radio, YouTube and other web sites as a cohesive, collective social juggernaut. Never in the history of human civilization has the common man been able to control his media perception and catapult himself on to the big stage in this manner.

The agenda for Eric's workshop is as follows:

I plan on attending this workshop! How about you? Anyhow, Eric is available to answer any questions you might have in advance of the actual workshop in Philadelphia. What would you like to ask him?

Grant Award: Yahoo! Employee Fund ($5,000)

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) is proud to announce that we have won a $5,000 grant award from the Yahoo! Employee Foundation. Our grant proposal, in support of the youth education programs hosted by BDPA New York chapter, was submitted earlier this year.

Eric Hamilton was the Yahoo! employee who served as our internal champion on this fundraising effort.

BETF is honored to provide fundraising services for BDPA (local and national). Our hope is that others appreciate our nonprofit efforts and will step up as virtual volunteers or online donors.

For now, we just hope that you will share a smile and pleasant moment as we celebrate this grant-writing success with Yahoo! Employee Foundation!
