BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) and BDPA Milwaukee chapter had our grant proposal declined by Bader Philanthropies. We had sought $10,000 for the 2018 Student Information Technology Education & Scholarship (SITES) program.

The chapter ... led by its president, Shawnda Peterson ... continues to amaze others by its consistent growth. The chapter grew by 40 members in the past month as they continue moving towards the next milestone of having 200 members this year.
We continue to operate under the leadership of National BDPA VP-Membership Management Mildred Allen. Her team now includes Chad White (Dallas) and Judaea Lane (Memphis). Her efforts have allowed BDPA to continue to grow. She realizes that we need to work hard to keep membership growth and retention higher.

BDPA Milwaukee chapter was chartered in May 2005. One of the major corporate sponsors for the chapter has been MillerCoors. The last two presidents in chapter history were both employed by MillerCoors. In August 2013, BDPA Milwaukee chapter was reactivated in an effort to establish a network for minority IT professionals. They are a minority Information Technology (IT) organization dedicated to developing career-minded, IT professionals through networking and education to become leaders and innovators in the IT industry. Through sponsorship and volunteerism, they strive to develop programs in the community for high school and college students, but also for IT professionals and executives.
BDPA recognize chapters across the country that are committed to developing the Information Technology talent pipeline from the 'Classroom to the Boardroom'. BDPA Milwaukee was recognized as the “2014 Comeback Chapter of the Year” for its accelerated growth and commitment to students, members and corporate sponsors. Compared to the other chapters across the nation, BDPA Milwaukee has attracted the highest percent of new members in one year. BDPA Milwaukee Chapter sponsored local high school students in the National High School Computer Competition (HSCC).

Allen Baylor
Allen is a Milwaukee native, with almost 20 years of experience in Information Technology. Allen is married to his beautiful wife, Dr. Aza Baylor, which we have two beautiful children, Amari and Niara. He is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He has covered areas of IT Operations including IT Security, Networking, Application Monitoring and Tier 3 High Availability Support. He also worked in Project Management as a Web Development PM. From here, he shifted the last decade of his career into the area of Quality Compliance, with a focus on IT Governance, Quality Assurance, QA Testing, Validation, with exposure to FDA Audits for IT Systems. Allen is currently working with MillerCoors as a Governance Specialist with a focus on PMO Governance Processes and Methodology.MillerCoors has been the official beverage at our annual BDPA Technology Conference over the past few year.

Brewers Community Foundation provides a significant number of grants each year to nonprofit organizations that provide quality programming in the areas of health, education, recreation and basic needs, with a particular focus on low income and disadvantaged youth and their families. BDPA Milwaukee wrote a $5,000 grant proposal to them seeking support for the 2017 Student Information Technology Education & Scholarship (SITES) program. National BDPA annually selects and awards the BDPA Epsilon Award to recognize and celebrate key contributions and accomplishments of its members. Nominations are accepted across five categories and they are evaluated by a team of National BDPA members. One of the categories is Career Achievement. This honor is reserved for people who have significant demonstration, by meaningful results, strong partnership and collaboration with entities in the communities they reside.
BDPA is pleased to announce that Sandra Scott has won the 2015 Epsilon Award for Community Service. Her nomination was submitted by Carmen Giles, manager, MillerCoors. She wrote,

Sandra Scott is an outstanding individual and an enormous assess to the Milwaukee Community. She has been a key player in many areas of the Milwaukee Community such as Hansberry Sands Theatre Company, MillerCoors – Milwaukee Tutorial Program, NAACP, Milwaukee County Cultural Artistic & Musical Programming Advisory Council and the rejuvenation of the BDPA Milwaukee Chapter.
Sandra is the CEO and founder of the Scott Institute of Learning. She has worked with a number of Milwaukee Public Schools to improve academic achievement. Her main goal is to educate students how to manage, embrace, and understand such topics as Conflict, Critical Thinking, and Financial Literacy. Her program has touched so many students’ lives and they are highly encouraged to join the BDPA Milwaukee Chapter HSCC program. Under her program, students have mastered the art of NASDAQ Stock purchasing and selling.
Under Sandra’s leadership Hansberry-Sands Theatre Company has given numerous Milwaukee youths an opportunity to display their talent in acting and production director roles. She provided strategic direction, vision, bias for action, and motivating leadership. Hansberry-Sands Company was the only Black theatre company in Milwaukee for many years. Sandra and her team received numerous acknowledgments from the Mayor of Milwaukee, local media, and corporations.
Under Sandra’s leadership, the BDPA Milwaukee Chapter has expanded its membership and student recognition in the City of Milwaukee. She played a significant role preparing the Milwaukee students attendance at the 2014 BDPA National Technology Conference. This was the first time that the BDPA Milwaukee Chapter had students attend the conference. BDPA Milwaukee Chapter success is contributed to Sandra Scott passion for successful results.

BDPA Los Angeles had a great month in November as they grew their chapter by over 25% in that single month. BDPA Midwest Region (vice president, Michael Wulf) is dominating the Top 10 list this month. Five chapters in that region are in the top 10 (Cincinnati, Chicago, Detroit, Indianapolis, Milwaukee). BDPA Northeast Region (vice presidentFred Smith) is also doing well with four chapters in the top 10 (Philadelphia, New York, Washington DC, New Jersey). BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) worked with BDPA Milwaukee chapter to submit a letter of inquiry (LOI) to the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation. We asked for permission to submit a $10,000 grant proposal to support the 2016 Student Information Technology & Education (SITES) program planned for implementation in Wisconsin. BDPA Milwaukee chapter continues to grow in terms of the number of students impacted by their programs.
The Bradley Foundation requires two steps in their application process. First, the applicant should prepare a brief LOI to the Grant Program, describing the applying organization and its intended project. If the Foundation determines the project to be within the current program interests as determined by its Board of Directors, the applicant will be invited to submit a formal proposal.

The chapter was one of the few considered for the Chapter of the Year award at the national conference a few weeks ago.
William Wells
We welcome on board a brand new chapter ... BDPA Kansas City (president, William Wells). This is actually the second effort to grow a chapter in the nation's heartland. the 1993 National BDPA Technology Conference was hosted by the original chapter. The current chapter has a very energetic chapter president who seeks to bring STEM activism to his city. He will showcase what the chapter is all about at the upcoming Digital Opportunity and Inclusion Summit, Dinner and Play. They are the 31st largest BDPA chapter in the nation. We look forward to continued growth of the chapter in Kansas City over the coming weeks and months!

BDPA Milwaukee Student Information Technology Education & Scholarship (SITES) program trained 27 young people this year. The young people arrived at BDPA from a variety of Milwaukee area schools that included Rufus King, Washington, Kradwell, Brookfield Elementary, Brown Deer and many more. The young people were taught web development, programming and database technology as well as 21st-Century business skills from a dedicated cadre of instructors and advisers.
