Starbucks Foundation

Starbucks Foundation believes young people have the potential and power to change the world for the better. They have the ability to assess the unique needs of their communities and to create meaningful change. Starbucks aims to support young people leading positive change.

The Starbucks Foundation is interested in supporting organizations that provide young people a continuum of services in developing creative approaches to address pressing concerns in their communities. They accept letters of inquiry from organizations October 1st through December 1st. The online letter of inquiry form will be posted on the Youth Action Grants website on October 1st. The Starbucks Foundation will contact the organization directly if they'd like to request a full grant proposal.

Successful grant applicants will exhibit all of the following qualities:
  1. Deliver services to youth, ages 6 - 24
  2. Preference will be given to organizations that focus on young people in the age range of 12 and older, when they are able to take independent action
  3. Provides opportunity to combine learning with action that support communities and further global citizenship
  4. Deliver services, disseminate information, provide training and/or build broad networks
  5. Provide opportunities for Starbucks partners and multiple stores to be engaged in community service
Starbucks will not support organizations that discriminate against a person or a group on the basis of age, political affiliation, race, national origin, ethnicity, gender, disability, sexual orientation or religious belief.

Time is short ... does anyone on national or local level want to seek out funding from Starbucks Foundation?

Grant Declination: Starbucks Foundation (BDPA New York)

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) learned this month that Starbucks Foundation denied our letter of inquiry (LOI). We used our LOI to request permission to submit a full grant proposal on behalf of the Student Information Technology Education & Scholarship (SITES) program hosted by our BDPA New York chapter.

The declination message read as follows:

Dear BDPA Education and Technology Foundation,

Thank you for submitting a letter of inquiry for the Starbucks Youth Action Grants program. We appreciate your time and effort.

Unfortunately, your organization was not selected to submit a full grant application for the 2012 grant cycle.

Only a small percentage of the organizations that submit letters of inquiry will continue in the application process. These organizations and their programs closely align with our grant program guidelines and are located within our geographic priority areas.

Due to the volume of requests we receive, we cannot provide each organization with detailed feedback regarding the decline of their letter of inquiry.

We regret that we cannot support every worthy organization and again thank you for your interest in the Starbucks Foundation.

We wish you ongoing success in your efforts.

Sincerely,
The Starbucks Foundation Team

BETF will continue to actively work with any interested local BDPA chapter on fundraising efforts. For example, we have created an online fundraiser to help raise college scholarship funds for BDPA New York chapter's HSCC students.

Letter of Inquiry: Starbucks Foundation (BDPA New York)

BDPA New York chapter president Renetta English worked with the BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) on a letter of inquiry (LOI) to Starbucks Foundation.

We are hopeful that Starbucks Foundation will review our LOI and reply to us with approval to submit a full-fledged grant application. We want to request $5,000 in funding to support the Student Information Technology Education & Scholarship (SITES) program in New York City.

Wish us luck!

Grant Declination: Starbucks Foundation

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) recently learned that our letter of inquiry to Starbucks Foundation was unsuccessful.

Dear BDPA Education and Technology Foundation,

Thank you for submitting a letter of inquiry. We appreciate the time you and your organization took to complete the online letter of inquiry.
Unfortunately, your organization was not selected to submit a full grant application.

As we receive many more letter of inquiries than we are able to fund each cycle, this grant review process has become increasingly competitive and we regret that we cannot support every worthy organization.

We thank you for your interest in the Starbucks Foundation. We wish you ongoing success in your efforts to improve the lives of those you serve.

Sincerely,
The Starbucks Foundation Team

BETF will continue to seek funding to support BDPA programs on both a national and local (45 cities) basis.

Letter of Inquiry * Starbucks Foundation

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) submitted an online letter of inquiry to the Starbucks Foundation. The Starbucks Foundation will contact us if they want us to request a full grant proposal for our nationwide Student Information Technology Education & Scholarship (SITES) program.

The Starbucks Foundation solicits applications from organizations that provide young people a continuum of services in developing creative approaches to address pressing concerns in their communities.

Successful grant applicants will exhibit all of the following qualities:
  1. Deliver services to youth, ages 6 - 24; Preference will be given to organizations that focus on young people in the age range of 12 and older, when they are able to take independent action

  2. Provides opportunity to combine learning with action that support communities and further global citizenship

  3. Deliver services, disseminate information, provide training or build broad networks

  4. Provide opportunities for Starbucks partners and multiple stores to be engaged in community service.

The Starbucks Foundation reviews the submissions on an annual basis; letters of inquiry submitted between October 1, 2009 and January 30, 2010 will be reviewed and considered for the spring 2010 grant round. Organizations selected to advance in the process will be notified to complete a full application by February 15, 2010.

We will keep you informed of our progress.

In the meantime, we would be very interested to hear from you about other funding sources that might help us deliver the SITES program on a local or national level. Any ideas?
