The opportunities for success with the underserved minority community around the nation just received a boost as JPMorgan Chase agreed to work with BDPA at the 37th Annual BDPA Technology Conference in Washington DC on August 18-22, 2015. JPMorgan Chase agreed to underwrite activities for a number of local BDPA chapters in an effort to train the next generation of IT professionals.

JPMorgan Chase is a leading global financial services firm with operations in more than 60 countries. The firm is a leader in investment banking, financial services for consumers, small-business and commercial banking, financial transaction processing, asset management and private equity. “I am honored to welcome JPMorgan Chase as a Silver Level Sponsor of BDPA. On behalf of the National Board of Directors and the National Executive Committee we thank JPMorgan Chase for their dedication, support and commitment with helping BDPA impact those members through their contributions to BDPA”, said immediate past president Dr. Craig Brown. “Sponsors like JPMorgan Chase provide the necessary resources that make it possible for BDPA to continue forward with its mission.”

Message from BDPA Northern Delaware Chapter President

Karen Smith
Thanks to the 2013 BDPA Northern Delaware Banquet Planning Team for an extraordinary celebration of our STEM Initiative! After seven years of leading the Northern Delaware Chapter, this event served as my last official act as the Chapter President.

Our 2013 event was an Annual Event where we specifically thanked our Corporate Sponsors, Student Leaders, and Volunteers. The overall success of the BDPA Northern Delaware Chapter can be attributed to contributions of all three. JPMorgan Chase, as a chapter sponsor, is a big part of what makes our chapter successful.

We also introduced the 2014-2015 BDPA Northern Delaware chapter president to the Delaware community. We are preparing for growth in 2014 with 60 plus students aligned to our programs, 60% of them college students. This is the result of our partnership with three premier Delaware Universities and three local High Schools. I want to acknowledge the Northern Delaware Student Affiliate chapter at Delaware State University and our growing partnership with the National Society of Black Engineer's chapter on the University of Delaware campus. I want to also thank Wilmington University for the gift of lab space and student scholarships.

Sincerely,
Karen Smith, president
BDPA Northern Delaware Chapter

Here are some highlights of BDPA Northern Delaware history:

  • 2007 - BDPA Northern Delaware chapter was chartered in November by unanimous vote of the National BDPA Board of Directors.
  • 2008 - BDPA Northern Delaware hosted its first Banquet and Educational Showcase at the Sheraton Suites in Wilmington, DE.
  • 2009 - BDPA Northern Delaware hosted a Capital Hill session with its congressional representatives. The chapter earned honors at the national BDPA Technology Conference as both 'Best Managed Chapter' and 'Most Developed Chapter'.
  • 2010 - BDPA Northern Delaware chapter hosted a regional IT Showcase event and held another Capital Hill session with congressional representatives. The chapter held its first Corporate Advisory Council meeting. The chapter earned honors at the national BDPA Technology Conference as both 'Best Managed Chapter' and '2nd-Runner Up, Chapter of the Year'.
I look forward to seeing how the chapter continues its growth and evolution over the coming years.
