Chapter President's Message (Philadelphia)

Monique Berry is one of the few BDPA chapter presidents who reaches out every month to her key stakeholders (members, sponsors, educators, entrepreneurs and community). We are pleased to share her words with you here on our blog. Monique's message this month is as follows:

I want to send a special thanks to Bernard English (Merck), Eileen Gadsden (E-Region), Ellen Rutledge (Wyeth Pharmaceuticals) and Joy Taylor (Wyeth Pharmaceuticals and 14 other Wyeth employees. Representing BDPA, these 18 members facilitated Career Day sessions at the following Philadelphia schools: Young Scholars Charter, Gideon Elementary and Pepper Middle.

The volunteers visited the schools to talk about their own careers and answer any questions the children had about choosing and getting the career they want. These visits proved to be an enlightening experience not only for the students, but for the volunteers as well. Many of the students aspire to be professionals and had many questions about what they needed to do to achieve their goals and what kind of schooling is required.

Many thanks to all who attended the April meeting. It was encouraging to hear the positive feedback by the participants. Camari Ellis (First Genesis Financial Group) spoke to members about financial planning, accumulating, managing, protecting, and transferring wealth and laying the foundation to build a legacy.

On May 1, the National Executive Committee and chapter presidents from all over the country arrived in Philadelphia for the National Board of Directors meeting. We enjoyed 2 days of business planning and training at the City Avenue Hilton.

Our quarterly professional workshop "Agile Contracts" is on Tuesday, May 6 facilitated by Wanda Lee of Ternary Software at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. The workshop is delivered in partnership with the Philadelphia Agile User Group sponsored by Wyeth.

Sheree Johnson (SAP America) will present "Working in the SAP Community: Nothin' but Net!" at our monthly program meeting sponsored by CIGNA on May 21.

We appreciate everyone that renewed their membership this year. Members are what makes the chapter and programs a success. Let's be the best we can be, inform your colleagues about BDPA and our upcoming events. Feel free to contact one of the board members to inquire about events, speakers and presentation opportunities.

We are only an email away. Thank you for all of your support as members.
